I have been thinking a lot about why I'm writing here at all! Honestly, I have been thinking too much in lieu of just making something, anything. This is classic Gina behavior.
One thing I want to experiment with is publicly bookmarking things with context. I have a deep, deep archive of things that I've saved and bookmarked across a bunch of services and platforms and software. I know that I originally saved all of these things because they made me have that little shimmer or sparkle of "oh, this resonates with something in me", but without a note attached, this is not a format that stands the test of time.
The worst offender is a folder on my Firefox toolbar that is just called HOLE. This backlog of out-of-context bookmarks feels like the shoebox of ephemera and memories and other nice things that you've been taking with you whenever you move apartments for 20 years. You know there's important stuff in there, and you know when something should get added to it. You think that some sunny afternoon, you'll finally sit still long enough to Sort It All Out, after which you will attain peak self enlightenment. Wow!
However, this isn't how brains work; this is goblin behavior, uncritically sitting on a big pile of gold. I'd like to stop making piles, and instead share why I like a thing...and then move on. And also tag it! Because I want to see the patterns that emerge. But the most important part is the moving on. Because these things, though clearly important enough to keep, are also demonstrably not important enough to get my full attention beyond that initial bit of energy.
I think the ideal way that most of the things currently in the hole are meant to be experienced is:
I think these posts may be called bits, but I'm not 100% on that. I mostly want to see what emerges if I'm intentional about sharing these things, and not continue to be weird and precious about my gold pile. I am interested in a lot of things but also terminally a perfectionist, so getting these things out of my head to see the light of day is, I think, a useful practice. Or maybe it'll be so boring, who knows, I am gonna try it anyways.
